Their Catholic faith teaches these gentlemen to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors through generous donations such as this. Sending a BIG THANKYOU to the Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph Catholic Church for the donation of $1,600 for the Smith Center! We appreciate your ongoing love, compassion and support of those we serve here in our programs!

This year marks the 8th consecutive year of recognition by the U.S. Senate for our essential workforce. Disability services providers across the country marked this week by hosting celebrations to honor their Direct Support Professionals. "We will never be successful if no one knows who we are. We will never reach the ultimate goal of a better wage if our messaging is inconsistent. With persistence, however, we CAN make certain each governor in each state knows who our workforce is. With persistence, we have a shot at increasing the value our states place on DSPs, and with persistence, we might just pull this off — one state at a time." - ANCOR ![]() the AWE Arc residential program is looking for direct support professionals to work in the homes!9/17/2020 Are you a retiree looking for something to do with your time? Even if you've never worked in the disabilities field, I bet you have many qualities we are looking for! Come see us! We are especially in need of weekend staff, but have other shifts available! Apply weekdays between 7:30am-2:30pm at the Louise M. Smith Developmental Center. 298 Jay Street, Prattville. ![]() direct support professionals are the heart of our organization! thanks for all you do! we love you!9/15/2020 Due to potential effects of Sally, the Smith Center Day Program will be closed Wednesday. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we want to ensure the safety of the people we serve and our hardworking staff.
We will see everyone Thursday! Masks (or a comparable face covering) must be worn in the Smith Center building as well as in the homes. We kindly ask that you refrain from removing your mask while in our facilities. Over the past two weeks, we've had work-related visitors (reps, contractors, job applicants, etc.) in the building. But for some unknown reason, whether out of habit or just lack of understanding, many people remove their masks soon after entering. Face coverings are expected to cover the nose AND mouth, not one or the other. If an AWE/ Arc employee is seen outside of his/her office space without a face covering, please report this to the Executive Director and it will be addressed.
Please, please understand our reasoning for the strict guidelines. If you are reading this page, then you have ties to the Smith Center in some way. We are doing all we can to keep people safe and healthy during this time. Your support is appreciated! Thanks! ![]()
As the Smith Center reopens this week, we are currently in PHASE 3 of the above (attached) Emergency Plan. This phase puts heavy emphasis on the use of PPE and social distancing. At this time, Both the residential program and the Smith Center day program are not allowing visitors. All non-employees who enter the main building will be screened and are expected to wear PPE. This screening will include the taking of your temperature and a serie of questions pertaining to exposure to COVID-19. Only persons entering for programs-related matters are being permitted into the building at this time. Please state your business to Donna at the front desk. She will be happy to call the appropriate staff person up to the front lobby.
We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused to families and friends of the Smith Center attendees. |
