EARLY INTERVENTION

EARLY INTERVENTION

The Early Infant Education Intervention Opportunities (E.I.E.I.O) was begun by the AWE/Arc in 1994 and currently provides early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental delay from birth to age three in Autauga, Elmore, Montgomery and Chilton Counties.

Early intervention assesses a child’s developmental delays and provides a wide range of appropriate therapies working with the parent or caregiver in the child’s natural environment, usually at home or in a daycare. Services might include physical, occupational or speech therapies and special instruction.

The mission of EIEIO is to assure that families who have at-risk children in this age range receive resources and support that assist them in maximizing their child's physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development. The earlier children with developmental delay receive assistance, the farther they will be able to go in life.

To be eligible for services, a child must be between birth and age 3 and experiencing at least a 25 percent delay in one or more of the five developmental areas – communication, physical (including vision and hearing), adaptive, cognitive and social/emotional.

If you are concerned about your child's development and are located in the Autauga/Western Elmore area, please
